On March 28th, 2009 members of the MIT Beijing alumni club and their families welcomed the class of 2013 admits, as well as admitted graduate students to brunch at TGIFriday's to welcome them to the institute.
Around thirty alumni and three incoming students had lunch and discussed student life, courses and experiences. Old pictures and even a freshman facebook or two were passed around much to the amusement of all.

Dear MIT Alumni,
Very soon MIT will make the final decision on who will be admitted into the class of 2013. The Beijing MIT Education Council and the Alumni Club would like to welcome these new freshmen and their parents by hosting a luncheon to meet and welcome them, MIT style. Here are the details:

- Cost: We will pay for our own meals, as well as split the cost for the new freshmen and their parents if they come (This should not exceed 5-10 people for the whole event)
We want this to have a warm & "homey" feel. Please bring your favorite MIT stories, hacks, and photos to share with each other & pre-froshes, as well as wear your favorite or most "geeky" looking MIT shirt. I will send out a formal flyer with more details soon with the Alumni Club, but please do save the date and plan on coming with your other half or family members. Every year when the time comes around to welcome these "newbies", I always show them my Freshman Picture Book with all our funny 80's clothes & "Farrah Fawcette" hairdos, and it's always a good laugh :-) It should be a lot of fun!
