Dear MIT Alumni,

I am excited and honored to be the Acting President of MIT Club of Beijing. Over the past month a team of volunteers and I have worked hard to provide the club with more structure and operating funds as well as trying to streamline our operations.

WE NEED YOUR HELP:

• Volunteer: If you are interested in getting involved, please email Elaine Wong at ehwong@alum.mit.edu.

• Additionally please join us for a kick-off meeting on Sunday Feb 7th, 7:30pm at Rumi (1A Gongti Beilu - opposite Zhaolong Hotel, Chaoyang District, 8454 3838)

Specifically, we need volunteers to help with:

o Events

o Marketing and Communications

o Finance / Treasury

o Faculty Liaison

• Event Participation: Your participation in events will make our efforts worth while. Please join us: o February 6th (This Saturday) 9am - 2pm: WRSA MIT Chapter event - See details below. o February 7th (This Sunday) 7:30pm -9pm: Volunteers meeting - See details above. o March 3rd, (Tentative Date) 7:30pm: Reception / Dinner with Marjorie Yang ’74, Chairman of Esquel Group. Ms Yang is a member of the MIT Corporation and Advisor of Dean's Council at the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She also serves as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and serves on the boards of Swire Pacific Limited and Novartis AG.

• Make sure our mailing list is complete: If you or anyone you know of are not on the MIT Club of Beijing mailing list and would like to be, please log on to the Infinite Connection (https://alum.mit.edu/) and update your address to include Beijing - this can be your Home, Work, or Seasonal Address. If you travel to Beijing often and would like to be included on our mailing list you can request to be added.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR: • Creation of an operating budget for the club. Funding and accounts are critical infrastructure of the club. In an effort to institutionalize the club and establish banking accounts, with support from alumni in China and Hong Kong, we have raised RMB 100,000 working capital for the clubs in China. While we aim to run the club on a break-even basis, this provides us with more flexibility and the possibility of running much larger events.

• Consolidation of the MIT Club of Beijing mailing lists. Historically, the club used a variety of third party mailing lists (yahoo, gmail, etc) and the MIT mailing list. To reduce confusion we have consolidated all databases, and going forward we will use the MIT Infinite Connection mailing list only. If you are not on the mailing list, please update your address on the Infinite Connection (https://alum.mit.edu/).

• Updating our MIT Beijing website. We are currently integrating the MIT Club of Beijing website with the MIT Alumni website. Thus, you will be able to find the latest club event, volunteer activities, MIT news, and Alumni Directory all in one place. Stay tuned.
